βœ…Product Comparison

Use Product Comparison to score and compare products within the same use case. Use the tutorials below to learn how to generate a scoring sheet with the comparison mode.

1

Starting a new comparison

Navigate to Create or Edit Comparisons between products and press Start New Comparison. Give your comparison a name and an optional description to continue.

2

Select a region

Currently, users can choose between Global, Europe, United States, Spain, and the imaginary Ecoville. This represents the region where the products will be used. More regions might be added in the future.

The scoring results for the same products may vary based on the selected regions. This is due to different recycling standards used in different geographical locations. The UP Scorecard assumes average recycling and composting rates of the selected region unless the user specifies which materials can be composted or recycled locally. To customize and use local recovery settings, switch the toggle to Customize Composting and Recycling later on in the Results screen.

Learn how to customize recovery settings here.

3

Choose a use case

4

Choose food or beverage content

If you want to know why it is important to input what foodstuff or beverage is being served or packed, please read the section on Food and Material Interaction.

Skipping this step will automatically assume the highest-risk food (Hot, oily, acidic).

5

Choose products

Select at least two products. One of them must be a reusable option. Press Create Comparison to view your results. If you are logged in, you also have the option to create a new product to add to the comparison in this step.

In the Product Comparison mode, scores will be calculated for the volume an item carries (see Functional Unit for more information).

6

View results

On the results page, you will see a table displaying the different foodware and food packaging items you selected. For each item, the different scores for the six metrics are given, together with a summary score (unweighted average of the 6 metrics). Below the Comparison Scores, we provide you with some circularity details on the selected products. Below that, you will find all the details of each product (size, reusability, components, materials, and mass).

Here, you also have the option to apply Custom Composting and Recycling.
